What We're Looking For
At Brainchild Magazine, we offer the honors community an inviting space for expression. We seek submissions from midwest undergraduate honors students within the Mid-East Honors Association. Our community loves to see work from any and all majors—past contributors included first-time poets, part-time artists, full-time creatives, and more. Challenge the notion of what makes a creative and reshape the idea of good and bad.
Brainchild aims to amplify all voices within the honors community. What does the world need right now? What do you need right now? We want your work to shape the theme of our magazine, so throw yourself into creating and don’t look back. Quiet the inner critic, take a leap, make an impact.
Share your voice with us. Help us understand the world as you experience it and submit here:
How to Submit
Brainchild will be accepting submissions until Sunday, December 15.
All submissions received during the reading period will be carefully reviewed and considered. Our response time will vary according to the number of submissions we receive. We make every effort to respond to all submissions within five months of receipt. We accept simultaneous submissions, but please contact us if your work is accepted somewhere else so we can take it out of consideration.
We publish several types of work. See below for our guidelines and recommendations for submissions.
Poetry: We do not have length requirements for poetry. Please submit up to 5 poems in separate forms.
Fiction and Creative Non-Fiction: We do not have a word limit for these categories. If you would like a number to reference, the typical length of a short piece in these genres is 3,000-5,000 words. Please limit submissions to these categories to one per person.
Visual Art and Photography: Please submit up to 5 images in these categories. Each image must be submitted in a separate form.
Other: If you have a piece you believe would be a good fit with Brainchild but are not sure what category it falls under, you can submit it in this category.
All work must be submitted via this online portal. Submissions will not be accepted via email or mail. There is no fee for submitting to Brainchild Magazine.
